The Black Swan...

so the Black swan is finally in cinemas, having seen trailers i could not wait to see the full film. And i was not disappointed! with all the hype of newly released movies and having seen nothing of the directors previous work you can sometimes get swept up into assuming that a film is going to be fabulous and be sorely let down when it comes to seeing it for yourself, however Darren Aronofsky did not disappoint and i am now eager to see his previous creations.
centering around a set of dancers preparing for a performance of swan lake this piece sees Nina (natalie Portman) struggle with herself and psychological issues to please everyone else. seemingly being driven insane by her mothers and instructors demands alongside her own personal intentions she goes insane with the pressure of perfecting her role as the black swan. This deep and psychological story line really affects the audience in terms of bringing up your own personal raw emotions as your watching it. Portman's performance is truly oscar worthy, i found myself furious with her in the beginning as she was pushed around by other characters in the film wanting her to stop being frigid and stand up for herself, yet as the film progressed i saw the instant and dramatic change in her personality as her issues set in. Rarely have i seen a movie performance where i have so starkly noticed and felt the tension coming from the character. In Arronofsky's choice of Portman i could not picture anybody else in this role, feeling the character truly belonged to her, a perfect example of how an actor should perform a role!
Yet despite all of this i don't think i could bring myself to watch this film again. Watching brought up so many emotions i was unable to speak when i left the cinema, something which i can assure you never happens to me! i found it was not only me whom the film had affected in this way but everyone who's opinion i asked seemed to have felt the same way. This film is so bang on that it allows you to feel everything the character is going through and in turn you feel exhausted and tense once you have seen it, and despite telling everyone how amazing it is i stand my ground when i say it will probably be a one time viewing for myself. But i do urge people to see it, for that once in a lifetime experience that i feel no other film will match.
