The Black Swan...

so the Black swan is finally in cinemas, having seen trailers i could not wait to see the full film. And i was not disappointed! with all the hype of newly released movies and having seen nothing of the directors previous work you can sometimes get swept up into assuming that a film is going to be fabulous and be sorely let down when it comes to seeing it for yourself, however Darren Aronofsky did not disappoint and i am now eager to see his previous creations.
centering around a set of dancers preparing for a performance of swan lake this piece sees Nina (natalie Portman) struggle with herself and psychological issues to please everyone else. seemingly being driven insane by her mothers and instructors demands alongside her own personal intentions she goes insane with the pressure of perfecting her role as the black swan. This deep and psychological story line really affects the audience in terms of bringing up your own personal raw emotions as your watching it. Portman's performance is truly oscar worthy, i found myself furious with her in the beginning as she was pushed around by other characters in the film wanting her to stop being frigid and stand up for herself, yet as the film progressed i saw the instant and dramatic change in her personality as her issues set in. Rarely have i seen a movie performance where i have so starkly noticed and felt the tension coming from the character. In Arronofsky's choice of Portman i could not picture anybody else in this role, feeling the character truly belonged to her, a perfect example of how an actor should perform a role!
Yet despite all of this i don't think i could bring myself to watch this film again. Watching brought up so many emotions i was unable to speak when i left the cinema, something which i can assure you never happens to me! i found it was not only me whom the film had affected in this way but everyone who's opinion i asked seemed to have felt the same way. This film is so bang on that it allows you to feel everything the character is going through and in turn you feel exhausted and tense once you have seen it, and despite telling everyone how amazing it is i stand my ground when i say it will probably be a one time viewing for myself. But i do urge people to see it, for that once in a lifetime experience that i feel no other film will match.

stumbling around...

I have stumbled upon a site i used in recent years to procrastinate from work. that being www.stumbleupon.com lost it's appeal once uni was over but i have recently found some photographic gems. this being the latest...

This absolute quirky beauty is by Joseph Cartright, his shots are stunning, high contrast, sharp pieces of art which enstill the feeling of excitement, beauty and intrigue. I specifically loved this image because it made me think of one of my favorite stories, Alice in wonderland, her hair is flying above her head as Alice's did as she feel down the rabbit hole. This childlike connotation makes the image even more beautiful and gives it a sense of fun to combine with its edgy quirks. i'm sure i will be posting more about him in the future but if you want to look for yourself... www.cartright.com

New year... NEW BLOG.

Ahhhhh my first blog. Having been a perpetual blogger in previous times i feel it is only right that i take up this hobby once more, now i am free from uni and my horrific degree i can get back in touch with myself and start to enjoy the things i have neglected over recent months. After spending three years listening to what tutors want and expect, and neither enjoying nor meeting their needs (oooops!) i realised it was time to figure out what i want for myself... so with the new year comes NEW BLOG! A chance for me to voice my opinion about things i really like (and dislike of course), not exhibitions or work or lectures but fashion and photography, buttons and boxes and maybe even the odd baking reference; quite frankly i'm going to blog about anything and everything that i want to! Some may be short and some may take me days to write either way i'm going to enjoy every minute of getting my opinion out there, if even one person reads and enjoys i'd consider it a success... so pop back frequently and see what i have to offer. you never know you could be pleasantly surprised...
